It is possible to submit a marriage registration form from over the age of 18.
Please submit the marriage registration form with the consent form or have your parents (adopted parents) state that they give their consent to the marriage in the 'Others' column then sign and seal.
*With regard to raising the age of women, according to Article 3, Paragraph 2 of the Supplementary Provisions to the Amendment of the Civil Code, women who are 16 years old or older and under 18 years old at the as of the effective date (April 1st 2022) shall apply to the Civil Code before the change.
1. Necessary documents: Marriage registration form (Available at ward offices, branch offices), Consent form (persons under the age of 18 require the consent from your parents (adopted parents))
2. Date of submittal: Optional
3. Where to submit documents: Ward Resident Section of Ward Office or Citizens’ center of branch office located at your registered domicile, address, temporally address.
4. Who can submit documents: The couple to be married. (over the age of 18)
5. How to fill out a marriage registration form: The marriage registration form must be filled out the signatures and personal seals of the couple to be married (rubber stamps not acceptable), the signatures and stamps (rubber stamps not acceptable) of two witnesses over the age of 18 (If the witness is a foreign national, he/she shall be an adult), the choice of which family name (surname) the couple will take after the marriage, t the establishment of the new permanent domicile, the current domicile of origin, and the current address, and all other required information.
6. Business hours:
Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 5:00 pm,
The 2nd and 4th Saturday 8:30 am - 0:30 pm (Citizens’ center of branch offices does not accept on the 2nd and 4th Saturday)
(Except for business hour, it can be accepted a notification at the guard office of ward office)
7. Holidays: Saturday (excluding the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month) Sunday, National holidays, December 29th - January 3rd.
(Branch Office Citizens Center are not open on Saturdays)
(It can be accepted a notification at the guard office of ward office on the holiday.
8. What to bring:
(1) Seal of notifier
(2) Certificate of All Registered Matters on Family Register or Certificate of Individual Registered Matter on Family Register. If your registered domicile is in Kawasaki city, it does not require.
(3) The things that can be verified the identity of notifier such as a Driver’s license, passport. (Only for those who have it)
(4) National Health Insurance Card (for enrollees only)
(5) National Pension Book (for enrollees only)
If a minor gets married, consent form of your parents is required.
(6) One of the following documents that can be verified the identity.
1. License, Permit, or Certificate of Qualification issued (Only with photos attached) by a public office, such as a My Number Card, Basic Resident Registration Card with a photo, Passport, or Driver's License.
2. Two documents that can be verified your name such as a Health Insurance Card, Cash Card, Bankbook, etc.
9. Note:
In case of remarriage, it doesn't need a consent form even if you are under 18 years old. In case of a foreign nationality, please consult us in advance.
