You can change your registered domicile by notifying a transfer of family register.

For your changing permanent address, you can decide anywhere as long as within Japan.　However, please note that the new registered domicile must be identified by its lot number, etc.

1. Where to notify:

Current registered domicile, new registered domicile, or your address of municipal.

2. Office hours:

(1) Ward Residents Section of each ward office

Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm

The 2nd and 4th Saturdays 8:30am to 0:30pm

(2) Citizens' Centers at branch offices

Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm

(Please note that Citizens' Centers are closed on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays for the reception.)

NOTE: During the hours out of the above mentioned, you can submit the notification with security guard room of each ward office.

Security guard room of ward office (excluding the branch offices) will take the notification during off-hours (5:00pm to 8:30am next morning) and holidays. However, they may refuse to receive it in the case of the documents incomplete.

3. Holidays:

Saturdays (excluding the 2nd and 4th), Sundays, National holidays, Dec.29th to Jan. 3rd

(Please note that Citizens' Centers at branch offices are closed on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays also.)

4. Who can notify:

The head of the family registration and its spouse

(Signatures and seals from the head of the family registration and its spouse are required on the notification of transfer of family register. If there is a seal of married couple on the notification of transfer of family register, or if either husband or wife passes away, you can file a notification alone. Also, a representative (a messenger) may submit the notification written by the person who wants to change the registered domicile. In such case, a letter of attorney is not required. However, there is a possibility that we may verify the identity of the representative or messenger).

5. Required items:

(1) A form of a notification of transfer of family register (You can obtain the form at any municipalities in Japan.)

(2) Single copy of a Certification of All Registered Matters on Family Register or a Family Register (Please note that this is not required when you are transferring within same ward in Kawasaki City.)

(3) Seals of the notifiers (the head of the family registration and its spouse respectively) (Seals are restricted to the ones that use ink pads only.)

6. Notes:

（1）By notifying the transfer of family register, the registered domicile of everyone on the family register will be changed.

（2）In case where both of the head of the family registration and its spouse are not on the family register because of death and so on, such family register is not allowed to be transferred.

（3）If only one of the member on the family register wants to change the registered domicile, when the person is over 18 years old, he/she can transfer the registered domicile by notifying the segregation from family register. However, the head of the family registration and its spouse are excluded.
